Relationship Assessment

The strength of a relationship is based on many factors, but those that have the most impact include your friendship with your partner, meaning how well you can relate to them and truly know them as a person. A close second is if you see your partner through a positive lens when you think about them, as this determines if you have respect for them and your relationship. Lastly, how you speak to your partner and manage arguments has significant impact in helping you have low stress relationships that feel incredibly rewarding.

To assess how strong your relationship currently is, have both you and your partner complete the three sections of questions below. Keep in mind this is a quick overview and there is a lot more to consider in building healthy foundations for a successful relationship.

Identifying Core Values

To align with your partner, you have to work on identifying your core values and understand how you want to be loved and spoken to. Your core values do not need to be the same as your partner’s for a successful relationship. You do however need to be familiar with how your partner experiences the world so you can create space for them in your life and adjust to each other’s needs.

To assess your core values, have both you and your partner identify five items below that stand out as the most important to each of you.

Feelings Wheel

The first step to understanding your feelings, is often to label them. This helps you tune in to your experience and communicate it to those around you in a concise manner. In expanding your language, you can also identify steps you can take to bring yourself to a more centred place. Instead of jarring up emotions because they are negative or uncomfortable, you can experience them, observe them and recognize what they feel like inside our body.

Relationship Check In Questions

These relationship check in questions will help you deepen your connection with your partner and cover subjects that might not normally come up in your day to day life.  This resources encourages you to carry out the discussion in a constructive and helpful manner. I have added additional questions you can use to explore who your partner is as a person outside of your relationship to help you better understand each other in your dynamic together as a couple.
